Not bad for a glorified word processor!īut as smart phones get more powerful, musicians should take notice. Any decent laptop now takes the place of at least half of the gear that used to fill recording studios- tape machines, equalizers, compressors, reverb units, mixing boards. In fact, the modern laptop and smartphone have taken the place of pretty much every other device in offices.Īnd they’ve gone far beyond. But you’d never guess these last two relatively anonymous devices would evolve to their modern state. You’d also probably see typewriters and telephones. Like Dictaphones, carbon paper, punch cards, and intercoms. If you were to visit a typical office in the 1960s, you’d see all kinds of equipment that’s virtually extinct now.
